The Red Devils has managed to yet again retain the curtain raiser, The Community Shield in the penalty shootout against the fancy Harry Redknapp side, Portmouth a.k.a The Pompey.

Man Utd 0 - 0 Portmouth

This game represent the first trophy for Man Utd of their seven possible trophies in this season. United were dominating the game even though several key players were missing from the team lineups. Among those missing were last season top scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo (injury), Wayne Rooney (virus) and Anderson (Olympic). In the absense of these top player, Nani appeared to be the star of the team … running the Pompey team all over the place, he has in several occasion coming close to open the scoring and is likely to be the key figure in coming United fixtures.

Manchester United vs Portmouth

Although United enjoy better possession in the game, however it’s still unable to shake off the worrying sign of inability to convert those possession into goals. Probably it’s the MIA of Ronaldo and Rooney but I believe with the quality of the team, they should have won it even during the normal time. Anyway, it’s a great game and great to see Edwin van Der Sar is still going on strong!
